ABOUT THE SINGER
Marsé Alaundra has always used singing as a way to escape. As an only child, singing was her way of creating a space of comfort, clarity, and creativity. Her passion for singing started as a little girl who sung jazz standards at the kitchen table after dinner with her grandmother. When she began her bachelors degree in 2014, she discovered her potential as a soprano and her new found love for classical music.
Alaundra spent the beginning of her career performing concert work. She was a soloist in Mozart’s Vespers Laudate Dominum and Samuel Barber’s Under the Willow Tree conducted by Dr. James Reddan. Then she dove into performing operatic scenes like Romilda from Handel’s Serse and Euridice from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice directed by Tory Browers.
In 2017 and 2018 Alaundra performed solo recitals that included jazz, classical, musical theater, and operatic repertoire. Her 2017 recital “I’ll Be Seeing You” featured music that went hand and hand with the five stages of grief including music by John Dowland, Franz Schubert, Sammy Fain, Henri Duparc, Cole Porter. Her 2018 recital “Strange Fruit” featured music based off of her personal minority groups, being a woman, Hispanic, and African American, which included music by Abel Meeropol, Federico Mompou, Maurice Ravel, Georges Bizet, and George Gershwin.
Most recently Alaundra has performed as Lakmé from a scene in Delibes’s Lakmé, directed by Angela Gooch as well as a concert version of Elvis Costello’s Juliet Letters, directed by Dana Varga. She has sung with the Longy Conservatory Orchestra in their 2019 “Operatica” and performed full operatic rolls as Kaylee from Speed Dating Tonight by Michael Ching and Geraldine from Barber’s A Hand of Bridge. In 2019 she was a Trojan and chorus member in the Longy School of Music at Bard production of Paride ed Elena by Gluck.
Alaundra received her Bachelor’s Degree from Frostburg State University where she studied with Mariana Mihai-Zoeter and Lawren Hill-Palmer. At Frostburg State she became a proud fraternity member of Sigma Alpha Iota, held executive positions, and also received the Sword of Honor in 2018 by the organization. She received her Masters in Opera from Longy School of Music at Bard College May 2020. During her first year at Longy she studied under Jeffrey Gavett while her second year was spent with Carol Mastrodomenico, who Alaundra currently studies under.
